"Our friend took us here on a Thursday night. It was full house so we had to wait at the bar area for 15 minutes. The staff get your details so once your table is ready you will receive a message. There was a live DJ and huge crowd — this place is suitable for young people looking to have fun at night. Food is incredibly affordable — we were 3 people and we ordered about 5 items plus drinks — for total bill we had to split into 3 — AUD 35 each of us."

"This is the restaurant I’d wanted to visit the most since my 1st year living in Melbourne, but I only just managed to go in my 2nd year almost my 3rd The atmosphere was great, though it was very loud. You literally have to shout to have a conversation even louder than a nightclub. I loved the vibe and the interior design, especially having a DJ playing right in the middle of the restaurant. There’s also a hidden pool table area at the back, which I only just found out about. I’m a bit of a steak night hunter, and personally I think the price here is reasonable since it includes a drink. That said, the steak on the day I went was a little chewy, and you have to pay extra if you want mustard. Even though the place was really busy, the female staff working that night were constantly moving around the restaurant and never standing idle. My favourite dish by far was the tiramisu rich, intense, and full of pistachio flavour."

"This place exceeded all expectations! Very good prices for everything and everyone at our table enjoyed their food! Tamar was so lovely and very competent and helped us with any issues (albeit none) that we had! They also have a pretty cool game on their coasters which had our whole group hooked! It was so fun! Will definitely venture back south of the river to visit again!"

"What a find! We stumbled across this place after a walk along the Yarra and so glad we did. If you’re a student, you have to check it out. You’ve never seen restaurant prices like this. Granted the portion sizes are smaller but the food is great and the vibe is chill. Love it!"

"Happened on a park right outside, saw the crowd and checked out the menu - thought it might’ve been a misprint. An amazing price of $9 for fresh-baked bread, pasta, or pizza. Smaller servings are great so you can try lots of the menu. Will definitely go back!"

"I randomly stumbled across this place, whilst on a walking tour of South Yarra before a movie. Such a cool vibe, and a great place for food and drinks at affordable prices. Sad to see some negative reviews on here, as I feel that all the staff are making a genuine effort to make sure we’re having a good time . "oh my god. definitely recommendation. this place is the vibes for a warm saturday afternoon or after work craving a drink, so cozy inside and the drinks are so cheap! i will say the espresso martini was a tad on the sickening side but that’s my personal preference. such a good vibe for drinks with friends , luv republic economia <3"

"republic economica is a vibey cafe nestled in the heart of south yarra, with a beautiful atmosphere featuring live records and cool decor. foodwise, i got the garlic pizza ($9), pasta napolitana ($9) and the mango juice ($5) – extremely cheap and flavourful. mango juice was fresh and all portions were generous. service was great and prompt, too !! [edit] second time i went, i got the cranberry juice ($5), a carbonara pasta ($14) and a garlic pizza. cranberry juice was fresh and tangy, pasta was creamy with a great portion and a garlic pizza, which the garlic tasted a little burnt, but was still good. we went at lunchtime, so we were able to choose where to sit. we finished our meal and ordered a few more drinks and was able to play some pool free of charge !! absolutely wonderful food & bev, and a great place to hang out, aswell. 3rd time i visited was during peak dinner time, on a busy friday night. i was unable to get seated with a party of 5 (fair enough) but opted to get takeaway instead. takeaway was fresh, and came within 10-15 minutes which was great considering the packed restaurant."
